Since the mind and body are interdependent, they cannot exist without each other. Therefore, to experience happiness, we must care for and develop both equally. The outstanding characteristics of a healthy mind and body can be noticed in the following aspects.
1) The resistance power. With regard to a healthy body can resist the attack of various diseases and can be exposed to the fury of different elements or environments with little or no effect on the body by virtue of good physical health. In medical terms, it has high immunity. In a similar manner, the healthy mind has the power to resist the change of emotion or vicissitudes of life and can be exposed to the fury of temptations and threats with little or no effect on one's mind.
2) The elimination power. A healthy body can eliminate poisonous substances through an effective elimination system, as the body uses the immune system to extinguish unwanted elements such as bacteria and viruses. So is the healthy mind. It can quickly purge whatever negative and poisonous emotions are sneaking into the mental atmosphere with an effective elimination process.
3) The repairer or self-healing power. The robust body is able to recover the lost health quickly within a short time. Also, the healthy mind has the ability to recover within a short time whenever it is disturbed by some interference. This power enables a person to purge the infection from the mental atmosphere, know how to heal the mental wound and strengthen purity and wisdom.
4) The adjustment power. A solid and healthy body has the
flexible quality to adjust itself to fit the changing conditions or the occurrence of different circumstances in life relatively easily than the feeble one. Likewise, the sound mind has the ability to adapt itself to suit current conditions and cope with them correctly to maintain balance and peace of mind.
Keeping the body healthy requires a healthy diet, reasonable and timely exercises, clean and invigorating air, sufficient rest, and relaxation. In the same way, to keep our minds healthy and happy, we need spiritual food to nurture the mind, spiritual exercise to strengthen it, and a good way of relaxation that leads to the balanced and peaceful conditions necessary for living in the troubled world.
From time to time, most people often take medical treatment to check the condition of their bodies to ensure and enhance their physical health. We also need "mental treatment" from a qualified master to know the condition of our minds. It is a critical factor for managing a happy and fulfilled life.
Therefore, A healthy mind and body are the essential and preliminary factors for all who want to find happiness and success. It is a birth-gift of all humankind to find happiness.
